Emerging Artists Program 2025

Free Studio Time + 50% Off Accommodations for Independent Artists

We’re thrilled to launch the third annual Emerging Artists Program at Barnhouse Sound!

After working with 28 incredible artists last year, we’re expanding the program to offer 250 hours of free studio + engineer time to independent artists with vision, talent, and a story to tell.

Our goal is simple: make high-end studio production more accessible to artists who are ready to invest in their music but can’t always access the space, tools, or support they need.

To help make multi-day sessions even more affordable, selected applicants will also receive 50% off our on-site accommodations*.

*A $185 cleaning fee applies. Max 4 people per group—if your band is bigger, reach out and we’ll see what we can do!

How To Apply

  1. Prepare a simple video or audio sample of what you’re looking to record

  2. Submit an application form by August 3, 2025 to be considered for the EA program!

2024 Artist Highlights

Ghost Pipe

This father-son duo from Duncan, BC brought raw, stoner-rock grit to Barnhouse in 2024. Influenced by Queens of the Stone Age and the ‘90s California desert scene, their chemistry and energy were undeniable, both in the studio and in their Live @Barnhouse session.

Jahidi Vibes

Jahidi Vibes blends acoustic percussion with synths and electronic textures to create soundscapes that blend ancient and modern sounds. At Barnhouse, we focused on capturing that fusion through studio recordings and two performance videos that showcase his distinct sonic vision.

Blush

Blush is a coastal Canadian alt-indie rock band blending crunchy guitars, haunting synths, and dreamy vocal layers. Their debut EP Still Wet channels '90s shoegaze and grunge influences with a modern, atmospheric twist—equal parts textured and melodic.

We recorded most of the EP live off the floor—drums, guitars, bass, and keys—capturing the raw chemistry of the band. Vocals were layered in afterward using a blend of a modern Neumann U87 and a vintage Electro-Voice dynamic mic, creating a vocal tone that’s both intimate and gritty. The mix draws from both '80s synth-pop and '90s alt-rock, giving the songs a dense, nostalgic feel.

Glisha

Glisha is a Vancouver-based Filipino-Canadian artist whose sound lives at the intersection of pop, R&B, and folk. Known for her lush vocal stacks, emotionally rich lyrics, and bright melodies, she draws inspiration from artists like Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and Lizzy McAlpine. Her music has connected with listeners around the world, from the U.S. to Southeast Asia.

During her time at Barnhouse, Glisha gravitated toward the studio’s vintage piano, which became a key element in shaping her album’s sound. Justin LaPointe co-produced the project and contributed live drums, adding Barnhouse’s signature low-end punch to her carefully layered arrangements.

Dead Summer

We first connected with Dead Summer through our Emerging Artist Program. Nate (bass/vocals) and Michael (drums/co-lyricist) immediately stood out after hearing their application song. We tracked the bed tracks for their single “Bloom” live off the floor, then layered in extra bass, percussion, and vocals.

With only bass and drums in the mix, we had to pull a studio trick to beef up the sound. Live, Nate runs his bass through both bass and guitar amps, giving it extended frequency reach and a hybrid tone. In the studio, we expanded on that by stacking his setup with multiple vintage Fender guitar amps alongside his live rig, creating the massive bass-guitar fusion you hear on the record.

CEC

The 26-year-old artist and producer uniquely blends contemporary RnB and neo-soul while writing in both English and Spanish. CEC finds confidence in expressing their true self, which is why they feel liberated in writing more explicitly queer music.

Beyond the studio, CEC is deeply involved in supporting underrepresented artists and communities, drawing on their experience living in Canada, the U.S., and Spain.

At Barnhouse, CEC tracked a live-off-the-floor version of their original song “Wet Paint,” along with a cover of MGMT’s “Electric Feel.”

CocoLarosa

Known for his rhythm-driven, lyrically rich storytelling, CocoLarosa draws inspiration from artists like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and Chris Stapleton. his songs speak directly from lived experience, aiming to create deep emotional connections across audiences.

Coco worked with Justin LaPointe to capture live-off-the-floor performances that stayed true to the energy of his songwriting. Together, they developed a hybrid approach that allowed for live tracking while still giving them the flexibility to shape the mix, blending both modern and vintage aspirations.

Heyokas Mirror

We were immediately drawn to Heyoka’s Mirror through their Emerging Artist application. Heavy metal is a genre we don’t often get to dive into, and their playing and songwriting had us fired up to collaborate.

For their project, we focused on drum production, capturing a massive kit sound by recording in a large room and using a mix of boutique vintage and modern mics. After laying down drums at Barnhouse, the band took the tracks home to record guitars, keys, and vocals on their own schedule. Once those overdubs are done, Justin will mix and master the record, set for release this fall.

Maria Gabriella

Maria Gabriella joined us from Edmonton, bringing a fantastic group of musicians she met during her time in music school. Together, they recorded live off the floor at Barnhouse — a session inspired by classic live studio recordings, with a nod to modern influences like Amy Winehouse. Justin produced the session and added drums.
